This morning I woke up with a slight headache and really heavy eyes (not from partying, but just going to bed a bit late). Nonetheless, the first thing that came to my mind was “I need coffee!”. Before doing anything else (i.e. cleaning my room, making breakfast, turning on Facebook, etc), I made my way down to the kitchen and made a fresh cup of Illy coffee.
One or two sips later, I was ready to start my day, and begin to function properly. I’m sure I am not the only person who thinks of coffee when they first wake up, or needs it to get the day started. That moment when you open the can of coffee, and the aroma fills the rest of the house, is probably one of my favorite ones of the day…even if for some reason I have to wake up at 6am, and I’m not a morning person at all, the smell of coffee makes me forget about the long day ahead.
Anyhow, what I want to say is that the morning coffee, that first cup of the day, is something special. To me it means that I can properly wake up, solve a Sudoku or two, check what’s going on around the world, or who’s dating who on Facebook. Though I tend to a lot of times do the same during the mid-day, afternoon, and evening coffee (like I said, I am obsessed with coffee), like Oliver Wendell Homes, Sr., once said: “The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea [or coffee] cannot be expected to reproduce.”
